JOHN MAYER hates his status as a tabloid target, insisting he's done nothing to deserve the intense and often negative press attention he receives.The guitarist was thrust into the public consciousness thanks to his high profile relationships with Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston. His connection with fans through social networking site Twitter.com have also exposed him to criticism and claims he's more interested in fame than musical success. But Mayer insists his critics have got him all wrong. He tells Associated Press, "I didn't really kill anybody. I didn't smash a car, I didn't commit a crime... I don't like the idea that there's an indictment on anything that I do. "The idea that there has been a sullying of my image... I'm not going to be buried with an Us Weekly. I don't give a s**t about it anymore."

JOHN MAYER and actor HUGH JACKMAN are helping to raise money for a Mexican orphanage by auctioning off special meet-and-greet packages for fans.The stars are offering to fly the winning bidders to New York to see them perform in the city, where Mayer is due on stage on 17 November (09) and Jackman is treading the boards on Broadway in A Steady Rain with Daniel Craig. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Friends of El Faro charity.

A male patron was violently stabbed - and John Mayer and his friends had to leave the establishment as paramedics rushed to the scene to treat the injured man, according to New York Post gossip column PageSix. The unnamed victim was rushed to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
