Our teen correspondent, Karleigh was able to participate as part of the press and ask a few questions to Corbin. Here are some highlights from the interview.
This was the first time Corbin did a web interview. He really liked the experience and wants to do more.
Speed of Light
Corbin talks about Speed of Light, it's a different venture than his first album, and he wanted to make it different. He worked with Eric Hudson, and Brian Kennedy for the past year, everything was built from the ground up.
Why was it called "Speed of Light"
Because of the title track which sets the pace for the rest of the album. The title track has the electronic R&B vibe that he felt nailed the feel of the rest of the album. It a very fast pace, and a very cool concept.
Favorite Songs from the Album
Moments That Matter, Speed of Light, and Champion mean the most to him. He went on to discuss Champion as a song about two crossroads between two people lives, and he felt he needed to write that song. Doesn’t matter the walk of life you come from, but the choices you make.
He said in this new album the content is more mature, where the first album he did was mainly single tracks put together. This album was created from the ground up, and more of story behind it, giving more full form.
Corbin will be touring in Europe to promote his new album release, and working on some US dates.
Talking about his performances, he was most nervous performing for Michelle Obama and her daughters. However, he feels that was one of his best performances he's ever done.
Before every performance he warms up and says a prayer with the crew.
Corbin is also active in charities and is very happy about beating Alec Baldwin in the recent Charity Smackdown. His charity is Stand Up to Cancer, and through the event he raised $9,000 for the charity.
As far as musical influences, he most admires Michael Jackson for his singing, and performance, and most notably that Michael is still going to perform a 50 stop tour and doesn't slow down. He also enjoys listening to TI, and the new track from Jamie Fox.
As far as who he would like to collaborate with, Corbin said he'd love to work with the rock group Disturbed. He said he's really into rock, and the lead singer David Draiman has an "insane" voice. He noted that they may appear to be dark, but their lyrics are really inspirational and have a deep meaning.
Acting
Corbin is really into his acting and said he would go to any lengths for his character. He said he would do just about anything if the role was right. He said he grew up in film, and feels you have to submit yourself for the character you're playing. He doesn't think there would be anything uncomfortable doing when playing a character since he's playing another person, and it isn't real.
If he could do a biopic, he would love to play Bob Marley, mainly because he loves his work, and they share a common Jamaican heritage.
He makes a big distinction between acting, and music, although he loves them both. He says music is more about getting into yourself. When working on a music project he disconnects from the world, and focuses on getting the album done. With acting, he has to deal more with his surroundings. "Music is diving into yourself, and acting is diving into someone else.".
Personal Life
As for relationships, Corbin is too busy working on his project to have a relationship right now.
During vacations he likes both extremes, sit around doing nothing on the beach, or sky diving.
At home during his downtime he likes to hang with his friends, play pool, play Rock Band, order pizza and junk food. And if he could battle anyone on Rock Band it would be the youngest Jonas Brother, Frankie Jonas. He could deal with losing to Frankie.
He said look for him to start using Twitter soon.
He also wanted to thank his fans for their continued support.
Speed of Light is in stores now!
